Oliver Locke
Founder and publisher of The Signal Wire. Cybersecurity forensic consultant.
The Signal Wire is an independently owned publication, and this page is where the ownership is stated plainly. Oliver Locke founded it, built the platform it runs on, and administers the servers that keep it online. There is no media company behind it. There is one engineer who treats a publication the way he treats every other system: something you should be able to open up, inspect, and run yourself.
Locke grew up in Philadelphia and got his first computer, an IBM PS/1, at age five. C and Python came early and stayed, more than twenty years now, with TypeScript layered on for product work. He moved to Florida in 2004 and works from Sarasota.

The record, on the record
A publisher asking readers to trust his judgment owes them his own history first. In the mid 2000s, Locke was on the wrong side of the federal investigation known as Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin. He cooperated with federal investigators, and he has spent the two decades since working the other side of the line: cybersecurity forensics for government contractors and law enforcement agencies, including matters involving the US Secret Service, the FBI, and British authorities.
“I owe a debt. Not to any court or any agency. To myself.”
That history is why this page exists. A masthead that hides who is behind it is a masthead you should not trust, and Locke has seen enough anonymous infrastructure for one lifetime.
